“The land of endless adventure — let us show you every corner of it.”

NyotaDrive is a Nairobi-based tour company founded in 2016 by a team of Kenyan guides, conservationists, and travel enthusiasts who believed their country deserved better than the generic safari circuit.
Our story
Our founder, James Mutua, had spent ten years driving tourists through the Maasai Mara for other operators when he realised something: the best moments on safari — the termite mound den they'd camped beside for three nights, the narrow lugga only James knew — never made it into the official itinerary.
He started NyotaDrive to change that. Nyota means "star" in Swahili — a navigator's reference point, something fixed in a turning sky. Our job is to be that for our travelers: the fixed point that lets you explore freely, knowing someone with genuine knowledge has the route.
We're still headquartered in Karen, Nairobi. The Land Cruiser fleet is bigger. The conviction is identical.
How we operate
Every guide on our roster was born and raised in Kenya. They know the Mara's microseasons, the tides at Diani, the streets of Stone Town. You get the version of Kenya that doesn't appear in a guidebook.
We work exclusively with conservancies and lodges that reinvest in local communities and wildlife corridors. Part of every booking goes directly to the Maasai Mara Trust's anti-poaching fund.
We cap most tours at 12 people. Not to seem exclusive, but because a small Land Cruiser can follow a leopard up a riverbed. A convoy of six cannot.
Every booking
We don't believe in optional extras for things that should simply be part of the experience.
“Africa changes you forever, like nowhere on earth. Once you have been there, you will never be the same. But how do you begin to describe its magic to someone who has never felt it?”— Brian Jackman, on the Maasai Mara
